Week 9: EYEnstein of the Week!

Congrats to the man of the hour, Russell Doi!! He doesn't like attention, so make sure to to congratulate him and give him a big hug!! :)

Russell is a Class A citizen and a real gentleman. He's the type of guy who will walk you to your car late at night and open the car door for you. He will help you with your overflowing bags and kindly open the lecture hall door for you. He'll always take the time to ask how you are doing and sincerely mean it. If you're feeling down, he'll have a shoulder for you to lean on and make you feel special. BUT sorry to break it to you ladies...he's taken:(

Let's catch up with Russell!

1. Why did you pick SCCO?

"I picked SCCO because of my pops. He graduated back when they first switched the name from LACO to SCCO...yikes!

2. If you didn't go to optometry, what would you be doing now?

"If I didn't go to SCCO, I would probably be bumming around."

3. What are your hobbies?

"In my free time, I enjoy fishing and drinking...coffee."

4. What's your favorite movie and why?

"Nobody got time to read this we got disease to read!!!!!"

Although I can't tell you Russell's favorite movie and why, I can say that when he's not studying hard, he's spending quality time with his girlfriend, Rocio

You can catch him sleeping in class...

He volunteers for SVOSH...

He is basically a party animal...

Dear Eyensteins,

Happy Week 9 Everyone!! We have a lot going on this week so make sure stay up-to-date with the class Google calendar and keep your eye on Facebook in case I have any last-minute updates.

Updates:
  1. I bought us an extra 20 minutes for the Ocular Disease Midterm on Thursday. Already confirmed with Dr. Sendrowski.
    1. Disease Midterm will run from 9:00am-10:10am
    2. Pharmacology Lecture will run from 10:15am-12:15pm, Dr. Torres did us a huge favor and moved his lecture to allow us the extra time! I know we are all crunched for time this week, but I think it would be nice if you could make it to Pharmacology to show him thanks!
  2. Clinic Orientation currently scheduled for Wednesday, May 20th from 2:30-5:00pm. A couple of people have conflicts with this scheduling, if you have a conflict please email Dr. Chu yourself. I will be meeting with him to discuss other possibilities. I believe last year they also had the clinic orientation scheduled after the last finals, Dr. Chu just notified us suuuuper late and screwed us over a bit… I’ll keep you updated.
  3. Added lectures for OHP this week for Dr. Yacoub:
    1. Monday @11am
    2. Tuesday @12pm
    3. Dr. Yacoub needs the extra time to go over cataracts and retina.
  4. Thursday OHP Lecture - arrive 5-10 minutes early for the gonio assignment from Dr. Sawamura, Lecture still scheduled for the normal time.
  5. Chart Audit - YES we have to do these, and they are due to Dr. Sawamura or Dr. Lee by the end of Week 9. They are the blue sheets and you can pick them up in clinic. Just choose a patient chart on EMR in clinic that you either served as the intern or recording clinician.
  6. Visual Fields Assignment - Due Monday. See Dr. Lu’s email for details.
  7. No Optical shifts week 9 and 10 (yay!), our “field trip” to Bartley Labs will be rescheduled for sometime in the summer.
  8. Next year’s class cabinet is still looking for two people to take on the position of Historian! Contact me for more details.
  9. We are all going to be in and out of OHP lab and the other pre-clinic labs practicing all week, let’s do each other a favor and keep it clean and share the space while you’re in there!
