EOTW Week 9

EOTW goes to.....Miss Sarah Kim!!! Congrats!! And that's "EYEstein of the Week" by the way and not the "End of the World." Although Pharm. does make us feel like the end of the world is coming...

Have no fear because the quarter is almost over and Miss Sarah Kim is here to lead us to the bright light at the end of the tunnel!

Let's get to know her a little better, shall we?

1. What is the most memorable moment on your trip to Italy and where will you go next?

Italy was amazing! My favorite spot was cinque terre, a region with five towns by the water. IT'S BEAUTIFUL! We did a 1.5 hour hike but I was not prepared for it so I hiked in boots and jeans. I thought it was going to rain but it was super sunny and the hike was difficult. I plan to go to Seattle for spring break and Missouri and some tropical place this summer.

2. Tell us more about your interests.

My interests include Netflix and eating out

3. How do you like being class VP? Can you tell us about your position and what you most enjoy about it?

It is definitely more work than I thought but the rest of the cabinet has definitely taken some of the load off. As class Vice President I plan fundraisers and events such as the ETOYB with Tiffany and the rest of the cabinet! Btw! ETOYB DATE IS MAY 21st so mark your calendars!!! I enjoy having input in the event planning and voicing the opinion of fellow classmates.

4. If you weren't going to Optometry school right now, what would you be doing instead?

If I weren't in optometry school I would probably be working somewhere as a civil engineer because that was my major for half of my undergraduate studies.

5. What's your favorite memory from SCCO so far?

My favorite memory at SCCO when it was still SCCO was making friends and getting to know my classmates. My favorite memory at what is now MBKU is either Dr. Ng's interview with Brad or when Siri told Dr Borsting she did not understand because that's how I felt

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday, Eyensteins!!

I'd like to introduce you to this week's Eyenstein of the Week, Miss Krista Reuland! Make sure to give our bubbly Krista a big hug this week when you get the chance!

Let's get to know Krista a little better! :)

1. What's your New Year resolution(s)?

"My New Year's resolution is...wait for it...to work out more! Super boring but I think I might be actually achieving it this year! haha"

2. How was traveling to Europe? Where else have you gone or would like to go?

"Traveling in Europe was the BESTEST!!! I mean, how could it not be, with CSUN as a traveling partner?! I want to go back everyday. Maybe one day I'll be a baller OD who is able to travel the world. Croatia was definitely my favorite country on the trip, although I would like to travel to South America next."

3. What are you hobbies?

"My most favorite hobby is GOING TO CLASS! Also I like to cook , a lot. And when I say a lot I don't mean all the time, I mean I physically can't seem to cook less than (for) 8 people. So if you are feeling hungry just stop by and I'm sure I will have some type of food for ya"

4. How do you like being one of the VP's for Omega Delta?

"I love being one of the VP's for Omega Delta! Not only was I able to meet first years, but I also got to participate in all the FUNN activities! Me and my co-VP pretty much run the show...JK (shout out to los presidentes, Marc and Pocahontas, for working their asses off)! Did I mention that the OD Board is super fun?"

5.Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

"In 5 years I see myself on the Amalfi Coast (in Italy) sippin on some wine. OR, I will be working in a group practice hopefully somewhere in California loving life! (BTW both options are best case scenarios)"

Eyenstein of the WEEK!

Congrats to our Eyenstein of the Week, Miss President Elaine Ngo! This girl has a busy week waiting for her and we just want to let her Ngo that we're all cheering her on :)

Let's get to know our President a little better, shall we?

1. How’s your experience as president so far?

Elaine: "It’s pretty good! I’ve gotten to know our professors and classmates a little bit better. 2nd year is pretty crazy so its tough to deal with the scheduling sometimes, but it’s an awesome feeling when I get the chance to handle a problem and alleviate everyone’s stress!"

                                                         Puppies definitely alleviate stress

2. How are you planning on spending your Spring Break?

Elaine: "If my funds permit… I’m hoping to do some traveling over spring break (Portland, NYC with the homies maybe??). If that doesn’t happen, going home to good ol’ SF will definitely do"

                                                                    Momma Ngos best :)

3. What would we most likely catch you doing when you’re not studying?

Elaine: "Probably eating or exploring! I just love to eat in, eat out, eat around the clock (my roomies know this all too well)… New restaurants and new places is totally my thing. I also love playing sports -- volleyball, football, softball, snowboarding, I love it all."

Elaine showing off her spidey senses :)

4. What did you do over break?

Elaine: "I spent a lot of time catching up with family and friends back home, too many holiday dinners to count… and I took a day trip up to Tahoe for snowboarding which was so fun! I wish I could chill out and hit the slopes every day!!"

When she's not owning school, she's owning the mountains

5. Tell us something that we don’t know about you.

Elaine: "Hmm I feel like I’m a pretty open book, but I used to play the trumpet in middle school… I was born without one of my adult teeth (my mandibular lateral incisor for you teeth lovers)… and I used to teach little kids how to swim at UCSF"

You can catch Elaine's reviews on Yelp!

A Message from Miss Presidente-

Dr. Alexander’s Damage Control Meeting:
Here are my shorthand notes from Dr. Alexander’s meeting with SA board… The news shocked all of us, so I hope this clears up a few things. If you have any questions or concerns that you would like to address, please let me or any of the cabinet members know and we’ll try to figure something out. Dr. Alexander is planning to post a video of the meeting soon, I also have an audio copy (unfortunately about 10-15 minutes of it was cut out because my phone ran out of memory… but I have it if anyone wants to hear the raw footage!!)
Anaheim building not final, OC Register jumped the gun when announcing the deal, MBKU is hoping to close the deal by the end of the month.
If the deal goes through, MBKU will be working on the details -- shuttle service, who is moving where, class schedules to allow for travel time between campuses, etc.
Plan is to move the eye care clinic to the Anaheim location. Brand new state of the art clinic with optometry, pharmacy, and PA -- the ultimate IPE clinic.
Old clinic will be turned into a building for didactic programs.
All plans to be put in place by Fall of 2016 (if things go as expected).
The firehouse next door to our campus is in the process of being purchased by MBKU -- which will most likely to be turned into parking area.
Budget is paid for by Bonds -- I’m still curious to see what our tuition breakdown is so I will be working on getting a budget breakdown for us soon.

Don't forget to order your badge reels/penlights by this friday y'all!!

have a wonderful week!

New Year, New Eyenstein of the week

Welcome back Eyensteins!

Hopefully everyone had an amazing two weeks off! Congrats to our first Eyenstein pick of the Year, Danny Head!! Couldn't think of a better person to set the tone for this upcoming year! I know it's going to a blast!

Here's how my interview with Danny went:

1. Where do you find inspiration for your Photoshop masterpieces?

Danny: "Honestly, it's more of a spontaneous thing. Some pictures just hit me as hilarious if they were taken a different way...and I just make it so. Masterpieces though? I'll take the compliment!"

Danny's favorite Photoshop

2. What are your other hobbies/hidden talents?

Danny: "Tennis, tennis and more tennis...That and school are pretty mcuh my only current responsibilities in life. My childhood hobbies that have stuck with me through are geography and gymnastics but I think I was too frail and tall (even though I'm normal height in real life) so I just now really get into geography."

3. What song best describes you and why?

Danny: "I'm pretty sure Jacqueline Byrd asked me at some point and I still don't have a good answer so I asked a friend: I was told Titanium by Sia; their reasoning was that I have titanium plates making up a good portion of my left orbital but also because I play it before I go out and attempt to dance. So we'll go with titanium. That's the closest I can get."

4. How did you spend your holidays?

Danny: "I binge watch tv, experiment with cooking (tried Paella-realized I don't like saffron), and tennis'd it up with my crew. I did go to san Diego and learned to dislike it less."

The young man and the sea

5. Tell us something we don't know about you.

Danny: " I never got into pizza, I'm a great uncle, I know the countries in Alphabetical Order (except for new countries formed after like 2000)...Well I just got stumped after SaudiArabia so 3/4's of the world in alphabetical order..."
Coree sings "he's got the whole world in his hands" :)
