Congrats to the sweetheart of the class, Miss Olave Yee! Learn how she "juggles" life, how she's raising her little one and about her suspense-thriller!

Let's get to know Olave a little better, shall we?

1) What is like being a momma to Autumn?

Being a "momma" to this little, wild creature is... FANTASTIC! haha. She is so smart and I love her to death (I sound like a crazy parent, right?). She's such a happy dog that it just automatically puts me in a good mood no matter what kind of day I've had. She's a great distraction and I dedicate as many of my study breaks to her as I can. If I'm not at school or at work, I'm at the doggy park or at the doggy beach with autumn! Next time you see her, introduce yourself because she likes to shake your hand when you say "nice to meet you" in french :P

2) Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I'll be 30 years old (OMG :0) and... according to the movie "13 going on 30", I'll be "thirty, flirty, and thriving" lol jk.

Ok, I would hopefully be back in Irvine or Newport Beach by then and. I'd absolute love to be working at a group practice nearby, And... since I'll be out of school I'm hoping I'll have an opportunity to dedicate extra time to other things I love to do. I'll hopefully be taking more cosmetology classes to be able to do more cool photoshoots, tackle on a few more languages (can't wait to seriously start learning sign language), and hopefully still at my job at Michael Kors. I like to do too many things at once, I know, but I guess that's what keeps me sane haha. (I know what you're thinking... or... insane).

3) What's your hidden talent?
My hidden talent would probably have to be... oh man, this is hard. Juggling? Is that a hidden talent? haha In 6th grade we all had to learn to juggle in order to pass P.E. I've been dying to try to juggle clubs ON FIRE!

4) Who would play you in a movie and what genre would it be?
I would have to say that Selma Blair would play me in a movie. It would have be a suspense-thriller with some kind of supernatural theme to it. YES!

5) What's your favorite memory at SCCO so far?
Hmm.. there are so many! But, I think I would pick going to Tijuana with SVOSH during first year.  We got the chance to help out some poor communities and it was just an amazing experience to make such a big difference in so many people's lives. Not to mention this man was so happy with his new glasses that he gave us the biggest block of cheese and 1 kg of tortillas. Just awesome helping such genuine, humble people.

Hey Eyensteins,

Happy Week 6!

Have you been keeping up with Christina Nguyen lately? Our belated Birthday girl wants to read your mind with her superpowers, but have no fear because a simple piece of fruit is her kryptonite. Intrigued?

Here's how her interview went:

1. If you can have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Probably telepathy. I think it'd be really interesting to see what everyone's secretly thinking. That and I'm also really nosy hahaha.

2. What can we find you doing when you're not studying hard?

If I'm not studying (which is all the time), I'm probably eating something. I'm a huge foodie so I love going out to eat and trying new foods! Let's be real, my future profits as an optometrist are all going toward food.

3. What is something we don't know about you?

I'm allergic to fruit! It's not deathly, and there's no anaphylaxis or anything, but my throat will swell up/get itchy and my lips can get red and swollen as well. Not like any of this stops me from eating fruit anyway haha.

4. What's your guilty pleasure?

Oh my god, I love trashy reality shows. But not just any trashy reality shows. Trashy reality shows about rich people. My favorites are Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Vanderpump Rules. If anyone else watches them, we should have a viewing party

5. If you were given $1 million dollars what would you do with it and why?

If I was given a million dollars, I would definitely give at least half of it to my parents. They came from Vietnam with nothing and worked hard to build the life that they have now. They've sacrificed everything they ever had for me, and I want to be able to pay them back one day. As for the other half of the money...that would probably be spent paying off my student loans hahaha cry.

Happy Easter Sunday Eyensteins!!
I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend with friends and family :) We have another busy week ahead.

  1. I've heard that many people want a re-vote on moving the Non-Strab BV midterm. I'm assuming it's because we got our Disease MT results and people are more worried about the second midterm. I made a new form to vote for the Non-Strab BV midterm, just as before we would need 75% of the votes to be in-favor or not-in-favor of moving the midterm. Keep in mind that I already notified both Dr. Chu and Dr. Barnhardt that we were all okay with moving the midterm... so I will have to meet with them on Monday to see if they've honored my previous request. With that being said, everyone who cares at all about the matter, please vote by 10pm tomorrow (Sunday, April 4th). https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1LnboIODWdfUBimTUiaweFSfPbWxvcP_W1FzCWmtFVTo/viewform?usp=send_form
  2. The summer and fall clinic schedules are out! See email from Connie Phung for details.
  3. OHP Final Proficiency - I am working closely on this with Dr. Lu at the moment… she is trying to push in our favor as much as possible! As of right now we will be having the Final Proficiency Week 10 (Mon/Tues) and retakes will take place on Thursday, May 7th (Finals Week 1). We will know the official schedule, individual time slots, and groups soon!! - Stay Tuned.
  4. Join us for our annual End of the Year Banquet! This year we will have it at LUCKY STRIKE Bowling Alley/ Bar on Thursday, May 21st, 2015 from 8pm-11pm. Your ticket will get you free bowling on private lanes rented for the event, shoe rental and food. There's also a full cash-bar for drinks! Tickets are on-sale NOW:

Do you want to get to know your classmates better and help them have the best 3rd year ever? Week 5

We are half way done through the quarter and only a few weeks away from being lean, mean Third Years!! Congrats on making it this far!

This week EOTW is Kim Pandiagan! Make sure to introduce yourself to Kim if you haven't done so already! She'll be coming back soon!

1. What is your guilty pleasure(s)?

Eating dessert before dinner and then being too full for dinner! Soo good! I just can’t help it.

2. What's one thing about you that's too funny to share? (but you're going to anyways tongue emoticon )

When I was little, I ate so many carrots that I turned orange.

3. Tell us 3 random facts about yourself

Watching fireworks is probably one of my favorite things to do.
I have ridden on Tower of Terror over 100 times yet still freak out (have to close my eyes and grab my friends’ arms) every time I ride on it. I love traveling and experiencing new cultures.

4. If you had to listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

I’m not sure, but the “Hall of Fame” is stuck in my head right now. Not saying that I will end up in the hall of fame or anything like that but I like to think that with dedication and hard work I can accomplish my goals

5. What did you do over break?

Over break I moved back home to sunny Seattle where I worked at an optometry practice. In my spare time I worked on planning my wedding and went on a vacation to Japan.

Make sure to Congratulate Kim on her newest EYEnstein:

Hey EYEnsteins,

Sorry for the heavy email but there is a lot of important information in this email, PLEASE PLEASE read
it all the way through!! :)
Updates:
1. Vote on the new USEC (University Student Executive Council aka the new SA Board) Constitution and
Fee increase. ]
a. The low-down on what’s changing:
i. Constitution Changes: SA board has been working on this constitution with Dr.
Barnhard all year -- it is an adaptation of our original constitution, we revamped the
organization of it and created branches to better suit the growing school. We’ve
included branches for PAs and Pharmacy schools. There is nothing sketchy… so
please vote YES on the new constitution. Yay!
ii. Fee Increase: The proposal is for a $45 increase per student per year. This money
will go directly to each class. For example, there are 107 students in our class, with
$45/student - the class will get $4815 for the year. This will reduce the amount of
fundraisers the class cabinet needs to put on each year. All remaining funds will rollover
each year. If we do not spend all of the money by the time we graduate, it will
be donated to USEC.
iii. Please vote here, it is very very important!! :
https://my.ketchum.edu/ICS/Constitution_Voting.jnz
2. Dr. Barnhardt prematurely brought this up in lecture last week. I went to Dr. Chu and proposed to
switch our Non-StrabBV Midterm from Thursday-Week 10 to Wednesday-Week 9 (April 28th). My
reason behind this switch proposal was to alleviate our current 2-midterm&3-proficiency schedule
Week 10.
. Pros: Slightly less stress for Week 10 and more time to study for Finals Week 1.
a. Cons: Back-to-Back midterms Week 9 (Non-StrabBV and Disease). Only 2 weeks between BV
midterm 1 and midterm 2 (not the biggest deal because Dr. Barnhardt said she will cut off the material for
Midterm 1 a little bit earlier than usual).
b. We need at least 75% of the class to agree on the switch for it to happen, please vote here:

3. Dr. Yacoub has a scheduling conflict during our OHP lectures on Thursdays, he is working on
switching his lecture time. The change will be TBA.
4. OHP Final Proficiency - I am working closely on this with Dr. Lu at the moment… she is trying to
push in our favor as much as possible! As of right now we will be having the Final Proficiency
Week 10 (Mon/Tues) and retakes will take place on Thursday, May 7th (Finals Week 1). We will

EYEnstein of the Week 4

Welcome and Congrats to this week's EOTW, Lisa Ho! If you haven't met the wonderful Lisa yet, please make sure to take the time to introduce yourself and welcome her into the class. We are excited to have her!

Let's get to know Lisa!

1. What is your guilty pleasure(s)?
"Food! I love eating and trying new food. I love going to food tastings especially if they’re AYCE. I’m willing try almost anything once. *sighs* I’ll probably all the weight I lost for my wedding back because of this."

2. What's one thing about you that's too funny to share? (but you're going to anyways tongue emoticon )
"I like stinky food (ex: Durian, fermented fish) but don’t worry, I won’t eat it at school."

3. Tell us 3 random facts about yourself.
"I flooded my car in Los Angeles. I like a good dirty joke. Don’t judge. Princess Diana liked them dirty jokes too. I love to coupon (No, not like coupon extreme style)."

4. If you had to listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
"I like a wide range of music, classical to rap. So most songs would be ok to listen to for the rest of my life. But know I don’t want to listen to anymore… that” Let It Go” song from Frozen. I have a niece that likes to sing that song. It was cute the first 5 times. Then it got annoying after she continuously played the many renditions of the song from Youtube. I still don’t understand why she’s listening to this song played in various languages she doesn’t even understand."

5. What did you do over break?
"Stressed out over a bunch of DIY projects for my wedding and then got married in Florida."
